Learning Objectives:
- Describe skin structure and function in relation to the physiology of wound healing.
- Contrast intrinsic and extrinsic factors that may compromise wound healing.
- Explain essential components to complete wound assessment and documentation.
- Differentiate between arterial, venous, neuropathic, pressure ulcers, incontinent associated dermatitis and end of life wounds.
- Correlate the appropriate wound dressing/product to a variety of wounds.
- Explain prevention strategies to avoid pressure ulcerations.
- Identify common and atypical dermatologic disorders and treatment strategies.
- Present palliative treatment intervention and pain management plans for various wound types.
- Identify strategies for management of complex fistulas.
- Identify documentation strategies for unavoidable wounds.
- Account for the emotional and psychological effects of end-of-life wounds for patients and families.
- Discuss the impact of compassion fatigue and burnout for health care workers caring for patients with extensive non healing wounds.
