The Herberge Endowment Fund: A Hope Chest for the Care of the Amish Community

Income from the Herberge Endowment Fund—A Hope Chest for the Amish Community—specifically provides hospice care for Amish patients who do not have insurance coverage or are unable to pay for services.

The word “Herberge” is German for a place to stay and rest. Traditionally, Amish girls fill a hope chest with homemade linens and quilts to use for their future homes. The anonymous donors who initiated the Herberge Endowment Fund wish for this to benefit and offer hope for future generations of Amish families in need of hospice care. Income from the Fund may also be used to pay for care for others in our community who do not have insurance or are unable to pay for services.

Hospice & Community Care has established endowment funds for the purpose of providing income to be used for specific needs. The principal remains invested in order to perpetuate the fund for future generations.
